2. Incarnation Praise

O Mystery of mysteries, O wonder beyond telling:
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us,
and we beheld His glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,
full of grace and truth.

Blessed is the Child born, the Son given;
upon His shoulders rests the government of all creation.
His name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end.

You, O Lord, who inhabit eternity,
clothed Yourself in the garment of humanity.
The Infinite confined within the womb of a virgin,
the Ancient of Days cradled in the arms of Mary.
He who cannot be contained by the heavens
was laid in a manger.

Angels filled the skies with song,
saying, “Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
The shepherds hurried to behold the Lamb of God,
lying among sheep,
the Great Shepherd hidden in humility.
The Magi traveled from afar,
bearing gold, frankincense, and myrrh—
gold for the King,
frankincense for the God,
myrrh for the sacrifice.

You are Emmanuel, God with us.
Not afar off, not distant,
but dwelling among us, walking with us.
The Eternal stepped into time,
the Invisible became visible,
the Untouchable became touchable.

You, O Lord, are the greater Moses,
who came not with a law written on stone,
but with grace and truth written on Your heart.
You are the greater David,
born in Bethlehem,
yet reigning forever on the throne of heaven.
You are the greater Solomon,
in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Blessed is He who humbled Himself,
taking the form of a servant,
being made in the likeness of men.
And being found in appearance as a man,
He humbled Himself even to the point of death—
even the death of the cross.

O incarnation, O mystery divine,
God and man united in one Christ!
In You dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
The fullness of deity clothed in fragile flesh,
the fullness of eternity contained in time,
the fullness of majesty hidden in meekness.

You are the Light that shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome You.
You are the true Light that gives light to every man coming into the world.
You came unto Your own, and Your own received You not,
but to all who received You,
to those who believed in Your name,
You gave the right to become children of God.

Glory to the One who came not to condemn the world,
but that the world through Him might be saved.
Glory to the Word made flesh,
who walked our roads, ate our bread, bore our griefs,
and revealed the heart of the Father.
