✨ 6 - OUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST
From Dust to Sons of Glory
"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name." — John 1:12 (NKJV)
INTRODUCTION: IDENTITY LOST, IDENTITY REDEEMED
When Adam fell, he didn’t just lose paradise—he lost his identity. No longer a reflection of divine dominion, he became a slave to the very ground he was meant to govern. And every child born from his lineage carried a fractured image—a distorted soul, separated from God’s original intent.
But in Christ, identity is not just recovered; it is transformed. From the dust of condemnation to the glory of sonship, the believer is reborn not of flesh and blood, but of the Spirit of God.
This post is a journey of rediscovering who you are in Christ—not by opinion, not by denomination, but by divine revelation.
SECTION 1: THE OLD IDENTITY — SLAVES TO SIN
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." — Romans 3:23
Before Jesus, our identity was defined by:
-
Sin
-
Shame
-
Bondage
-
Rebellion
-
Brokenness
We were:
-
Enemies of God (Romans 5:10)
-
Children of wrath (Ephesians 2:3)
-
Strangers to the covenant (Ephesians 2:12)
-
Dead in trespasses (Ephesians 2:1)
Our self-worth, our purpose, and our design were all corrupted by the nature of sin inherited through Adam.
Many still live under false names: Failure. Unworthy. Forgotten. Unloved. These are not names given by God—but by the enemy.
SECTION 2: THE NEW NAME — CHILDREN OF GOD
"Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!" — 1 John 3:1
Through the sacrifice of Jesus, we are not just forgiven—we are adopted.
What Changes in Christ:
-
We are no longer orphans.
-
We are no longer under condemnation.
-
We are sealed with the Spirit of Adoption.
"For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, 'Abba, Father.'" — Romans 8:15
Our new identity in Christ includes:
-
Sons and daughters of the Most High
-
Co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17)
-
Kings and priests (Revelation 1:6)
-
Ambassadors of the Kingdom (2 Corinthians 5:20)
-
Temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19)
SECTION 3: THE SPIRITUAL DNA — BORN FROM ABOVE
"That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." — John 3:6
We are born again through incorruptible seed:
"Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever." — 1 Peter 1:23
This means:
-
Your old man is crucified (Galatians 2:20).
-
Your new man is alive in Christ.
-
You now carry a divine nature (2 Peter 1:4).
You don’t just follow God—you belong to Him, carry His Spirit, and bear His name.
SECTION 4: THE JOURNEY OF TRANSFORMATION
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind..." — Romans 12:2
Becoming like Jesus is a process:
-
Forging in trials
-
Purging of sin and false identities
-
Stripping of pride and self-glory
-
Burning through the fire of holiness
"When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold." — Job 23:10
God doesn’t just call you son—He also disciplines you as a son:
"For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives." — Hebrews 12:6
SECTION 5: WALKING IN AUTHORITY
A believer who knows their identity walks differently:
-
They speak with authority.
-
They resist the devil without fear.
-
They pray with boldness.
-
They intercede from heavenly places.
"And raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus." — Ephesians 2:6
You are not begging for victory—you are enforcing a victory already won.
SECTION 6: THE MISSION OF THE SONS
Identity is not just about who you are, but why you are:
"For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God." — Romans 8:19
You are sent to:
-
Destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8)
-
Be salt and light in the world (Matthew 5:13-14)
-
Make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19)
-
Carry the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18)
"As He is, so are we in this world." — 1 John 4:17
Your life is not your own. You are on divine assignment.
CONCLUSION: THE HEAVENLY NAME
You are no longer Jacob—you are Israel.
You are no longer Saul—you are Paul.
You are no longer forsaken—you are beloved.
"To him who overcomes... I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it." — Revelation 2:17
Heaven doesn’t call you by your past. Heaven calls you by your purpose.
So arise, son. Arise, daughter. The time to walk in your true identity is now.
