Yoga Is Not Just Physical: It’s a Spiritual System of Worship

 To a layman:

  • Yoga may look like exercise, but every posture (asana), breath (pranayama), and chant (mantra) was originally designed to align you with spiritual forces.

  • The word yoga literally means "union"—but union with what?

Yoga seeks to unite the self (atman) with the universal consciousness (Brahman)—a core concept from Hinduism, which contradicts the biblical view of God as distinct from creation.

What Are You Opening in Yoga?

When you practice yoga without knowing its spiritual roots, you may unknowingly open yourself to:

1. Spiritual Energies

  • Ancient yogis believed certain poses invoked cosmic energies or deities.

  • For example:

    • Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) is a ritual of sun worship, honoring Surya, the sun god.

    • Kundalini Yoga seeks to awaken the serpent power at the base of your spine—a concept that should alarm any Christian or spiritual discerner.

2. Altered States of Consciousness

  • Deep pranayama, meditation, and chanting can induce trance states, making a person vulnerable to spiritual influence—both good or deceptive.

3. Surrender of Will

  • The goal of yoga is to lose the ego or individual self—but this also removes spiritual guardrails, possibly inviting other spiritual forces to “fill the void.”

The Deeper Spiritual Entities Behind Yoga Asanas

Let’s expose what’s usually hidden. Each asana (pose) is often named after Hindu deities, animals, or cosmic principles, and each has spiritual significance in traditional yoga texts.

Some Common Yoga Asanas and Their Spiritual Associations:

AsanaMeaning / TranslationSpiritual Association
Surya NamaskarSun SalutationWorship of Surya, the Hindu sun god
VirabhadrasanaWarrior PoseHonoring Virabhadra, a fierce form of Lord Shiva
NatarajasanaLord of the Dance PoseRepresents Shiva as Nataraja, the cosmic dancer
HanumanasanaSplits PoseDedicated to Hanuman, the monkey god
BhujangasanaCobra PoseRepresents the serpent (kundalini), linked to transformation
PadmasanaLotus PoseUsed in meditation to connect with divine consciousness
GarudasanaEagle PoseHonors Garuda, Vishnu’s eagle mount
BalasanaChild’s PoseSymbolizes surrender—often interpreted as spiritual yielding

These are not just names. In traditional yogic belief, each pose becomes a "mudra" (gesture) of reverence or invocation—whether the practitioner knows it or not.

Behind Kundalini: The Serpent Spirit

Kundalini is perhaps the most spiritually charged and dangerous aspect of yoga:

  • It's said to be a coiled serpent at the base of the spine.

  • Yoga practices are designed to awaken this serpent and raise it through the seven chakras, leading to enlightenment or "god-realization."

  • But biblically, a serpent awakening is not a source of divine truth—it echoes Genesis 3, where the serpent brings deception.

Many people report intense experiences—visions, trances, spasms, or even demonic manifestations—after deep Kundalini practice.

What Happens Spiritually When a Layperson “Just Does Yoga”?

To a spiritual novice, yoga feels harmless. But here's what's happening unseen:

  1. Poses open your body in specific spiritual configurations, aligning you with energies or entities rooted in ancient Hindu cosmology.

  2. Chants invoke deities, even if said unconsciously (e.g., chanting "Om" calls upon the cosmic vibration associated with Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva).

  3. Breathwork manipulates life-force energy (prana), which in yogic thought is not neutral—it is a gateway to mystical and non-Christian consciousness.

Yoga Is a Spiritual System Masquerading as Wellness

Think of it this way for a blog metaphor:

“Yoga is not just stretching—it's a spiritual USB drive. You may think you’re only copying fitness files, but something else is installing in the background.”

Modern Deception: Why It’s So Subtle

In the West:

  • Yoga is stripped of overt religion, repackaged with:

    • Christian music (“holy yoga”)

    • Corporate wellness

    • Medical claims (e.g., stress relief, back pain)

  • But spiritual laws still operate, whether you're aware of them or not.

Just because the wrapping is new doesn't mean the spiritual engine underneath has changed.

Conclusion: A Loving but Firm Warning to the Layman

Yoga is not just exercise.
It is:

  • A system of spiritual initiation.

  • Rooted in Hindu cosmology and mystical union.

  • Often invoking entities and states that bypass critical discernment.

Even without intent, the posture of the body can become a posture of the soul—and what you open spiritually is not easily shut.
